This conference is designed to strengthen couples in the Asian American community: married, engaged, or dating. Join us for this special day of teaching from Pastor Cory Ishida, our main speaker, and a variety of workshop teachers. Plenary Speaker

Pastor Cory Ishida

 

Pastor Cory Ishida is a graduate of UCLA and Fuller Theological Seminary. Cory started the Evergreen Baptist Church in LA about 29 years ago. He currently serves as the senior pastor of the Evergreen Baptist Church in San Gabriel Valley , CA .

Cory has been married for over 36 years, has three married daughters, and seven grandchildren. Cory enjoys basketball and golf, but most of all, he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren .

 

 

 

Workshops

 

 

1      Meeting Your Wife's Deepest Needs—Steve Quen

This workshop, for husbands only , will cover principles from Gary Smalley's book, If Only He Knew What No Woman Can Resist.

 

Steve is the senior pastor of the Bay Area Chinese Bible Church . He has been married for 26 years and has three grown children.

 

2.      The Lion, the Witch, and Your Wardrobe—Art Hom , Wing and Teresa

         Eng

Focus on the biblical roles of a husband and wife, the five basic needs of men and women in marriage and tie to our basic personalities to understand how to best relate as spouses. In addition, there will be case studies on topics of improving servanthood , developing submission, and rectifying emotional distance between husband and wife.

Art has 30 years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker. He is the Chief of Services for an Alameda County mental health care center in Oakland and is an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF Department of Psychiatry. Art has been married 35 years, has 3 grown children, and 2 grandchildren.

 

Wing and Teresa Eng are lay leaders at the Oakland CIBC, have married 24 years, and have 2 teenage sons.

 

3.     Untying Marital Knots—Dr. Sam Leong

This workshop will aid couples in understanding the nature of that painful place where they get stuck in their interactions with each other. The impact and contribution of family of origin patterns will be explored.

 

Sam is a licensed psychologist and marriage and family therapist with the Christian Psychotherapy Services in San Francisco . He has been married 21 years and has two teenage children.

 

4.      Growing Spiritually and Sexually in Marriage—Dr. Sam Leong

An often neglected topic of exploration among Asian Americans is this intersection of the two most intimate dimensions of our lives—the spiritual with the sexual.

 

5.      Conflict Management—Jason Kim

Conflict can either drive couples apart or draw them closer together. This workshop will present biblical/practical ways to resolve conflict.

Jason is the English Assistant Pastor at the Oakland CIBC. He has been married for 10 years and has a 3 year old daughter.

 

6.     Being the Wife/Mother God Made You to Be—Esther Yeh Tinklenberg

Do our dreams of a perfect home and perfect kids cause us feelings of guilt and frustration? Let's let Jesus make us into the woman He wants us to be.

 

Esther has been married to Roy for 10 years and is the mother of 3 children .

 

7.     Christian Parenting: Preventing Meltdowns—Art and Edna Hom

Children who “melt down (act out destructively at home and/or school) are a challenge for any parent. Learn biblical, practical ways to help our kids manage their anger.

 

Art and Edna have been married 32 years

Edna is a retired Christian school teacher with 31 years of experience. (Please see workshop #2 for bio info on Art Hom .)

 

8.     Practical Relationship Strategies for Parenting Toddlers and Pre- Schoolers — Reuel and Corinna Calica

Discover simple and practical ways for relating wisely to your toddler and preschooler. Learn the four A's of early childhood relationships and help your child cultivate a healthy sense of self, gain a feeling of security, and thrive in their social and emotional development.

Reuel is the senior pastor of the Faith Bible Church in Vallejo . Corinna is Adjunct Faculty/Asst. Director Children's Programs at Solano Community College . They have been married 14 years and have two children.

 

9.     How to Encourage Your Children—Roy Tinklenberg

This workshop will help you meet the daily challenges of parenting by providing you practical, biblical ideals -- and a few exasperating mistakes not to follow.

Roy has pastored 20 years in Asian churches and is currently the Lead Pastor of Christian Layman Church. He has been married 10 years and has3 children.

 

10.     Helping Our Kids Become the Best Students—Louis Lee

Help kids of all ages to do their best in school.

 

Louis is the general director of MESA .

 

11.      Teen Spirituality—Victor Quon

What is this thing called The Millennial Generation ? How do they experience faith? How can we go along for the ride?

 

Victor Quon is the Executive Director of the Malachi 4.6 Network which was created to train, teach and mentor second generation Asians to empower them to impact their peers for Christ. Vic has been married over 16 years and has three children.
